Hongkong

iets teveel china gehad de laaste weken; maar manlief had een oplossing: een weekendje hongkong.
Vrijdag was ere en typhoon aangekondigd. Volgens Mr P geen problem ( hij heeft ons naar Hongkong gereden) want dat is gewoon wat regen en wind. Maar ik ben daar toch niet zo happig op. Ook de taxi-chauffeurs in hongkong dachten daar anders over : ze zijn niet verzekerd als ze in dit weer een ongeluk veroorzaken. Toen wij aankwamen, stond er een rij wachten voor ons van 50 koppels. Hmmmmmm. Misschien toch beter de metro nemen. Even bellen naar het hotel of er in de buurt een metrohalte is. Oei, mijn telefoon werkt niet hier in Hongkong.  Gelukkig zijn er altijd infobalies in de stations.
Het voordeel van de metro’s is dat je geen tol betaald. In hongkong zijn er vrij veel tol-tunnels, waardoor een taxirit iets duurder is dan een taxirit hier in Guangzhou. Maar met de metro gaat alles vlotjes en het is een stuk goedkoper.
We logeerden in het W hotel.  Echt een aanrader;  vooral het ontbijt. Ik heb zoveel gegeten dat ik geen middagmaal meer nodig had.
Des te meer tijd om te shoppen :  Ik werd bijna gek toen ik de winkels zag; kazen,brood, charcuterie, vaste yoghurt, geimporteerde koekjes.  De kinderen hingen aan de etalage geplakt bij het zien van al dat lekkere eten.
Voor ons is een weekendje hongkong een verademing ( zij het wel een dure verademing) maar voor toeristen begrijp ik niet zo goed waarom ze naar Hongkong komen. Buiten de skyline en het shoppen , is er bitter weinig te zien. Misschien moet ik het allemaal nog ontdekken,…
Alles heeft natuurlijk europese prijzen. Ik ben dat niet meer gewoon en vond alles superduur.  Hoe ga ik ooit overleven als ik terug in Europa ga wonen. Ik ga niets meer willen kopen.

I had a little too much china during  the last weeks, but my husband had a solution: a weekend hongkong.
Friday the weather report  announced  a typhoon. According to Mr P no problem (he has driven us to Hong Kong) because that's just some rain and wind. But I'm not so keen on it. Even the taxi drivers in Hong Kong thought otherwise: they are not insured if they cause an accident in this weather. When we arrived, there was a row of 50 couples waiting for us. Hmmmmmm. Perhaps better to take the subway. Please call the hotel for a near subway stop. Oops, my phone does not work here in Hong Kong. Fortunately, there are always information desks in the stations. The advantage of the subway is that you do not pay toll. In Hong Kong, there are many toll tunnels, so a taxi is more expensive than a taxi here in Guangzhou. But everything goes smoothly with the subway and it's a lot cheaper.
We stayed at the W hotel. Highly recommended, especially breakfast. I've eaten so much that I no longer needed lunch. So the more time to shop: I went nearly mad when I saw the shops, cheese, bread, cold cuts, yogurt, imported biscuits. The children clung to the window at seeing all that delicious food.
For us, a weekend hongkong a relief (although an expensive relief) but for tourists I do not understand why they come to Hong Kong. Beside the skyline and shopping, there is little to see. Maybe I still have to find out ...
Everything has a european prices. I am no longer used to these prices. Everything was super expensive. How will I ever survive if I'm living back in Europe. I'm no longer going to buy anything.
