Baisha Ancient Town is een van de oudste steden in Lijiang. Het is de oudste nederzetting van de Naxi en is de geboorteplaats van "Tusi", hoofd van de Mu clan. Vanwege het witte zand op de grond, werd de stad de naam "Baisha" genoemd, wat betekent "wit zand" .. In de stad zijn er vele oude gebouwen gebouwd tijdens de Ming-dynastie, waaronder Dabaoji Palace, Liuli tempel, en Wenchang Palace. De bekende Baisha Fresco's zijn gevestigd in Dabaoji Palace. De totale oppervlakte van het paleis is ongeveer 73 vierkante meter. Er zijn 28 fresco groepen in het paleis. De meest bekende freseco  is die  van Sakyamuni die zijn leerlingen  de soetra passages uitlegt.
